United Services A 1

Tavistock 3

TAVISTOCK men?s hockey firsts extended their winning run to four matches on Saturday, lifting them to third place in South West division 1.

Missing several first choice players Tavistock found themselves under pressure from the start as United Services

controlled much of the midfield play.

Sweeper Kevin Lethbridge had an excellent half, keeping US at bay for the first 20 minutes, but conceding a goal from a penalty corner. This was a mis-hit shot that bounced over the outstretched Neil Bradley, spoiling the Tavistock keeper?s chance of recording three clear sheets running.

Tavistock moved Rob Kirby up into midfield at half time and the balance shifted in their favour. He denied US any time on the ball, and captain Nick Aveyard inspired his team to press forward.

The two Tavistock Youth players, Tom Honey and Olly Cowen, played an excellent half and justified their inclusion in the first team.

Nick Andrews, at left wing, used his experience to net his second hat-trick in three weeks, all three goals coming from free hits in the US 25-yard area by Aveyard.

Man of the match, Nick Aveyard.

This Saturday Tavistock v St Austell at home, 4.30pm.
