Local author Lillian Harry will open Oxfam's new bookshop in?Tavistock this Saturday (January 15).
The bookshop is in Market Street — where the Oxfam clothes shop used to be. If anyone has a Lillian Harry book, they can bring it along to be signed in exchange for a donation to Oxfam.
The opening of the bookshop follows the successful transfer of Tavistock's Oxfam fashion, music and homeware shop to West Street in the autumn.
The bookshop manager Val Sharpe said: 'Tavistock's community has generously supported Oxfam for more than 40 years, donating many varied and wonderful items to sell, please continue to do so.
'Volunteering is one of the best gifts you can give so if your interest is books, please consider if you could give in this way. In return you will receive friendship, support and new skills and all without being out of pocket. That has to be the best offer so far in 2011.'
The bookshop will open at 11am. For more information contact Val Sharpe on 01822 613901, or Jacky Theobald in Oxfam in West Street on 01822 615534.
