A MUCH published author with a flair for writing thrilling stories will be giving a talk this lunchtime (May 8) at The Wharf.

Laura Quigley has won a heap of awards including Amnesty International’s Human Rights Playwriting Award.

The Blackpool born, Derriford based writer has a particular passion for writing historical novels with a dark twist interwoven into her storylines but always inspired by real events.

Her books includes The Devil Comes to Dartmoor, Bloody British History, South West Secret Agents and her most recentA Song for The Burning, set in Plymouth in 1675, a time when women were hanged as witches, whipped for adultery and ducked in the harbour if they dare to complain.

An innocent servant girl is sentenced to be burned at the stake for poisoning her master but a young healer discovers the truth and must recruit a disgraced witch-finder to help her destroy a demon…

Her talk, however, will be about Mary Howard, the White Lady of Tavistock and promises to be equally as engaging and starts at 2pm forming part of a weekly event organised by the Friends of The Wharf group.
