THE annual meeting of cricket's West Devon Cup was held last week at Hatherleigh and it was announced that the competition is to be sponsored by Atlas International — its full title will now be 'The West Devon Trophy sponsored by Atlas International'.

Officials were re-elected and eleven teams were entered in the draw. Five teams received byes into the second round: Lifton, Milton Abbot, Bridestowe, Lewdown and last year's winners Tavistock.

The games to be played in the first round see last year's runners-up travelling to Belstone, Elephant's Nest hosting Buckland and 2002 champions Chagford at home to Whitchurch.

The second round sees some exciting games with Tavistock having to make the short trip to Milton Abbot, Lewdown at home to either Chagford or Whitchurch, Lifton having to travel to either Elephant's Nest or Buckland and Bridestowe at home to either Belstone or Hatherleigh.

The final will be played at Tavistock on Friday July 16.

Chairman John Gauler wished all teams good luck and hoped that all the matches would be played in the spirit of the game and that all teams in West Devon borough will enter next year.
