TAVISTOCK Athletic Club slipped to 3rd place in the Devon Sportshall League after the second meeting held recently in Dawlish. Close rivals North Devon AC and Exeter Harriers turned out in force, this meeting also incorporating the county championships with medals at stake. Tavistock took 34 athletes and they brought back their fair share of medals. Laura Aspen won gold, silver and bronze medals in her three events. Suzy Blandford collected one gold and two bronzes and Louise Elsworth claimed all three golds in her competition. Of the boys, Owen Drage won two silvers and a bronze in his events. In total the team won 10 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze medals in an impressive display. The next meeting is in January and with three more events in this series Tavistock will have to pull out all the stops to regain the trophy they won so handsomely last season. On the road there have been several notable successes and some marvellous improvements with several club records being smashed across all distances. The club have also pushed ahead with their Development Plan and already are seeing the benefits with an expansion of the coaching personnel and more recently a very successful Tavy 7 road race which has won accolades from every quarter.
