I AM in agreement with the letter from Graham Wilson (March 4) regarding the imposition of the 30mph speed limit in St Anne?s Chapel.

Mr Wilson is right in saying that inappropriate use of speed is the problem. The trouble with these lower limits is that they are all embracing ? when the mist is down 20mph might be fast enough on that road whilst in good visibility and with a clear way ahead 40mph would be quite safe.

So has this new limit really been a success? It is too easy for the authorities to make statistics prove what they want. For instance, the accident rate might well have benefited from the far fewer dark wet nights we have had this winter.

For me, having to constantly monitor my speedometer to avoid a possible blot on my licence and to weave around parked cars is a less safe situation. I should state that I have been driving for 43 years but don?t claim to be the perfect driver and am still learning.
