VOTERS in Tavistock will have the chance to quiz their prospective parliamentary candidates about environmental issues, in a Question Time-style event.

The public will have the opportunity at a meeting this month to ask those vying to be their MP at the next election what they would do to tackle climate change and other environmental problems.

Mark Robins, senior policy officer for the RSPB in South West England, said: 'Climate change is the most serious challenge facing humanity and nature. The only way we can stop it spiralling out of control is if politicians know that there is public support for action.

'In the UK, a general election is the opportunity to give that message loud and clear. The RSPB, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Tearfund, WWF-UK and other organisations have joined forces on this crucial issue to ask all their supporters to do one thing — ask the climate question.'

Whether or not Tavistock voters have a question, the organisers are keen to see as many people at the event as possible, so they can show the candidates the public care about environmental issues.

The meeting is at the Bedford Hotel on Tuesday April 20, at 7pm.
