THE Mount Kelly Festival of the Arts Exhibition was held at the end of term. Both the college and the prep school showcased work in art, photography, product design and design technology.

More than 200 visitors, including teachers from local schools, parents, family and friends were treated to a wonderful range of painting, drawing, sculpture and lens-based media created by talented artists across the foundation, many of whom were on-hand to discuss their work.

‘Sign of the Times’, this year’s art and photography exhibition brought together dynamic photography and imaginative artwork. From dark, atmospheric paintings created by the Lower Sixth to organ donor ceramic sculptures. This was juxtaposed with mosaic and finely painted portraits, works of Pop Art and fun animal collages. Photographers this year explored narratives through fashion based set-ups and used inspiration from their foreign travels to create thought provoking documentary shots.

Exhibition visitors were greatly impressed by both the product design and design technology exhibitions. At the prep, younger pupils’ work on display included innovative clock designs, bird houses and sweet dispensers, to name but a few.

At the college, there were 35 high quality prototypes on display, ranging from poolside loungers, contemporary tables and chairs, to Art Nouveau mirrors and jewellery made from fused glass and precious metal clay.

Georgia Jones won The Furniture Makers’ Company Award and has entered into the National Schools Design Competition with her contemporary, multi-tone dining table.
