AN artist from Drewsteignton is having an eclectic body of work exhibited at the Bowie Gallery in Totnes.
Ione Rucquoi uses photographic portraiture to present her ideas and convey emotion. Over the last year she has exhibited widely in selected shows and galleries around the UK, and more recently has enjoyed exposure in Europe with solo shows in Germany and Switzerland, and her work appearing in Amsterdam and the Ukraine.
The exhibition at the Bowie Gallery is entitled 'Sacrifice'. Images in the exhibition often draw strongly on Rucquoi's experiences as a mother, and newer pieces are reminiscent of the saints depicted on Roman Catholic prayer cards. Rucquoi's work often verges on the taboo, and challenges the viewer to question the instincts of human nature.
