MORE than £600 has already been raised by Chagford Peace Group, at the start of its second exhibition held to help people all over the world suffering as a result of war.

The Vision for our Earth exhibition, held in the Chagford Barns, includes more than 60 items of art which have been donated by local artists and was opened with a talk and concert.

Kristin Charlesworth, of Chagford Peace Group, welcomed David Halpin, of the Dove and Dolphin charity, and Derek Lewis, of Amnesty International, who both said they were delighted to support the exhibition?s aim of providing relief for people suffering from the effects of war and imprisonment.

Mr Lewis went on to describe the work of Amnesty, and gave an account of some of the harrowing cases the charity dealt with.

The talk was followed by a concert of Indian and Middle Eastern music performed by John Sterckx and Russell Harris. There was also a ?prayer of blessing? and a two-minute silence in remembrance of the suffering.

The exhibition, being held in the Barns courtesy of Lady Anne Hayter-Hames, will continue until August 28 and is open 11am to 5pm daily. All proceeds will be donated to UNICEF, Amnesty International and the Dove and Dolphin charity, for distribution to people, particularly children, in Iraq, Palestine and Aids-affected parts of Africa.
