ELDERLY residents at Aalen House Nursing Home in Okehampton became art judges for the day recently, when they joined activities co-ordinator Annie Harding in judging entries for an art competition at Hatherleigh Community Primary School. The competition for local children was sponsored by D R Jones, the contractors who are building the pioneering new care village in Hatherleigh for PSP Healthcare, the current owners of Aalen House. Aalen House residents Barbara Bartlett and Gwen Palmer faced some tough decisions as all the art entries were to an exceptionally high standard. Aalen House manager, Jan Hazell, said: 'This was a great opportunity for our residents to be involved within the local community. 'It was a very difficult task as the standard was exceptionally high for children of this age.' Winners will be able to see their work on public display in a new gallery at the care village, which is due to be opened in August this year.
