TAVISTOCK Athletic Club members were recently out in force, competing in two local races.

The Duckponds 7k race starts from Oreston School in Plymouth. It undulates for approximately 4.4 miles on tracks, grass and road around Roadford Lake. Six members ran, with notable performances from David Chanter who came first in his age category (37th overall) with a time of 30:08, Peter Bazeley (30:28) and Claire Brown (36:18) who were both third in their age categories.

Sunday's race, 6 Moor Miles was nearer home with the start at Leg of Mutton, Yelverton. The morning was sunny and warm, and the course demanding.

This is a popular race with TAC and 21 club members took part.

Jim Cole came second overall, in 37mins:43secs, (averaging 5.48 minutes per mile), followed by Peter Freedman in fourth position (39:28).

Tim Brooks was third TAC male home, in 43:14.

After consistent training, Tavistock ladies excelled. First TAC lady was Samantha Fraser in 50:55. Sue Bratchley had an outstanding run, finishing in 52:09, coming second in her age-group. Nicole Heryet was also second in hers, with a time of 53:13. Jill Court finished in 53:54 to give her first position in her age category. Ann Woodhouse averaged 11.21 minutes per mile, knocking three minutes off her time from last year to finish third in her age group.
