I AM sick and tired of reading Ms K Ashbrook's call to remove the military from Dartmoor. This must also be rather offensive for families who have loved ones on active service at this time.
Our armed forces need all the support that we, as a grateful nation, can offer them. There is not a year that goes by without further cuts to defence expenditure and essential training. Yet they are still expected to perform with obsolete and often unreliable equipment.
Therefore, it is not unreasonable for vital training to take place in a few areas that not many would wish to visit anyway.
The West Country has strong ties with the forces of the Crown. Over the last decade there has been a far too drastic downsizing with many barracks and installations being sold off.
In the tragic light of all too recent world developments there must be no further cuts or restrictions to armed forces training.
It is extremely important that the military retain the right to continue exercising on Dartmoor.
