Exeter St Thomas 1

Okehampton Argyle 2

ARGYLE continue to climb away from the relegation zone with yet another win — they are now unbeaten in their last six games.

Okehampton started full of determination and had several chances through the pace of Gill and Mortimore, who gave the home side a torrid afternoon.

Good support play by Maddax, Drew, Agnew and Cann in midfield, meant the home side were pinned inside their own half for most of the first period. The home keeper made vital saves to keep the score level, but he had no chance to prevent Argyle taking the lead, when Gill charged through on goal. He saved the first shot but was left in no-man's land when Maddax thumped the rebound into the roof of the net.

Maddax and Magrie combined well on the left to set up Agnew, who, after tricking his way into the box, was tackled late. He did not go to ground and managed to cross the ball to Drew whose shot was well saved.

The pace of Argyle's forwards was always an outlet for the long ball, which at times caused panic in the opposition's defence. Mortimore had several chances to score as did Maddax and Magrie, playing on the flanks.

Argyle began to sit back allowing St Thomas to push forward looking for the equaliser, but the defence stood firm coping with anything.

Argyle's midfield sat too deep and found themselves distant from Gill and Mortimore, who now had to pick the ball up deeper and work harder to create chances.

From one of these raids Mortimore ran half the length of the field beating two defenders and rounding the keeper, only to see his goalbound effort kicked off the line.

Mortimore made amends soon after when he side-footed the ball home from close range after a fine sweeping move.

St Thomas scored a consolation goal in added time after a free kick rebounded off the crossbar and fell kindly to the forward.

Over the Easter weekend Argyle have two away fixtures against teams also battling against relegation. On Saturday they play Exeter CS and then on Monday they travel to Sidmouth.
