Sampford Peverell 1
Okehampton Argyle Reserves 2
AFTER scoring 20 goals and conceding one in the last three games Okehampton came in to this game full of confidence but sloppy passing caused them to start slowly.
Sampford Peverell using their tall striker to great effect with the wind pinned Okehampton back for the first 20 minutes.
Okehampton finally got a foothold as Matt Sanders found Jon-Jo Fellows who was fouled, giving Okehampton a free kick 35 yards from goal. Gibbs found Aaron Ditchburn, who lashed the ball past the Sampford goalkeeper.
Okehampton's defence of Ditchburn, Mark Hampson and Tom Williams held a great line catching the Sampford strikers offside several times. The midfield of Sanders, Gibbs and Martin Taylor worked hard but were largely bypassed as both teams played the long ball in a scrappy half.
In the second half Okehampton got the ball down and started creating a few openings. They finally made it two when another Gibbs free kick was slid down the side of the opposition wall for an unmarked Fellows to score from the edge of the area with a cross come shot that found the top corner.
Okehampton changed Pengelly and Fellows for Dan Leahy and Chris Hollands playing his first game for the Argyle reserves.
Sampford took advantage of some sloppy passing and won a penalty when a long ball over Gibbs' head found their winger who rounded Chris Dearing who clipped the players' heels; Dearing saved the resulting penalty to atone for his foul.
This was a wake up call that Okehampton needed; they brought wingers Dave Yip and Ricky Wooldridge in to the game, who linked up well with Wooldridge hitting a couple of long range efforts over the bar.
Yip found Hollands who brought a save out of the Sampford keeper. With ten minutes to go, Okehampton finally conceded when a Sampford free kick found their tall striker who poked home from close range.
• Next week Argyle Reserves are away to Dawlish United.
