Seaton Town 3

Okehampton Argyle 1

OKEHAMPTON dominated for long periods but lacked any real penetration and were ultimately made to pay.

For the first ten minutes Seaton struggled to get out of their own half. Argyle, though, failed to capitalise on this supremacy and Seaton forced their way into the game, their first real effort of any note being met by a fine save by Steve Pengelly.

Midway through the half Okehampton forced four corners in quick succession as the game could not supply the killer instinct.

On the half hour Adam Mortimer beat the offside trap only to pull his shot wide of the far post.

Within a minute, Argyle felt the full blow of this miss when Seaton took the lead with a miss-hit cross which flew over Pengelly into the far corner of the net.

This shook Argyle out of their stride as Seaton enjoyed their best period of play but a couple of fine saves from Pengelly and a superb last ditch tackle from the impressive Burdus kept Argyle in touch.

Argyle's wind was again knocked out of their sails five minutes before half-time when the referee allowed a quickly taken free kick to stand even though he was still organising the wall.

Argyle came out for the second half determined to overcome the first half setbacks and reduced the arrears within two minutes when Mortimer calmly converted after a free kick.

The pressure became incessant as they went close on numerous occasions, none more so than when Ian Reddington headed the bar with an acrobatic volley. They were to hit the woodwork twice more through Mortimer and Ian Gill while two more efforts from corners were scrambled off the line.

Seaton completed the scoring 18 minutes from time against the run of play.

This week Okehampton Argyle have no game but return to Simmons Park on November 20 against Pinhoe. Kick-off 2.30pm.
