Carlsberg South West Peninsula division one East
Okehampton Argyle 2
Ottery St Mary 3
THIS was a very disappointing result for Argyle after two impressive away performances had produced an expectation of a good win.
As it was, a poor all-round display coupled with a dubious penalty award gave Ottery their first win in ten games.
Argyle started the stronger and after 10 minutes, Ed Squire let fly with a strong shot from 30 yards that visiting keeper Reeves could only parry into the path of Darren Prouse, who made no mistake with the rebound.
Okehampton then lost the initiative and let Ottery back into the match. On 15 minutes, an awkward bounce in the area saw the ball strike Matt Mortimer on the hand and the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors, only for Matt Bye to fire the spot kick over the bar.
Bye made amend two minutes later however when he broke down the left and his high lob into the Argyle goalmouth struck Argyle defender Chris Wills and went into the net to level the game.
On 23 minutes, another disputed penalty was awarded to the Otters when one of their forwards was brought down in the area. This time Matt Bye made no mistake with the spot kick. This really unsettled the home defence who lost their composure and on the half hour Brad Cooke rounded Kev Gill and raced clear to fire the visitors into a 3-1 lead.
Argyle brought on Steve Williams and Steve Kinsey for Ed Squire and Matt Sanders at the start of the second half and this immediately paid dividends when Kinsey fired home from just inside the box after only a minute's play.
From then on, Argyle pushed the Otters back but the visitors defence proved a tough nut to crack with Chris Ibbison and former Exeter City player Jason Rees having inspired games for Ottery.
The last ten minutes was one-way traffic as Okehampton did everything but score and the Ottery goal led a charmed life but the visitors held out to take all three points away from Simmons Park.
