Sidmouth Town 4
Okehampton Argyle 1
THIS was a disappointing result for Argyle, who have now lost their last seven league games on the trot.
Only near neighbours Hatherleigh have a worse record, and even this will be put to the test this week when the two sides meet at Simmons Park.
The first half of the Sidmouth game was fairly evenly contested with both sides creating, but missing, good chances. Robbie Miller, with a glancing header and Stuart Cann with a free kick went closest for Argyle, while at the other end Matt Channing missed a golden opportunity for Sidmouth when he skied a shot over the bar from close range with only the keeper to beat.
Argyle took a rather fortunate lead after 15 minutes, following a good run down the left flank by Robbie Sandercock. His cross into the goalmouth developed into a bit of a scramble. A defender?s attempted clearance hit one of his team-mates and rebounded into the goal. Although the keeper scooped the ball out, the home linesman sportingly signalled a goal.
Sidmouth were level within five minutes ? a through-ball caught keeper and defender leaving the ball to each other, allowing Channing to nip in between them and score in the bottom corner.
The second half was dominated by Sidmouth, with Argyle only making the occasional break, but none of them really dangerous.
Further goals from Long, Beverley and Hudson gave the home side a comfortable victory and left Argyle wondering how they can shore up their leaky defence in future matches, starting at home to Hatherleigh on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
