County cup

Okehampton Argyle Ladies 4

University of Plymouth Ladies 3

OKEHAMPTON progressed into the second round of the County Cup after a closely fought game.

Argyle had a limited squad meaning keeper Jude Robert had to play outfield with Tania Pope taking her place in goal and pulling off some fine saves.

The hosts took an early lead when Kelly Cooper's cross-come-shot found its way into the back of the net. Plymouth responded well and had equalised within five minutes.

Both sides battled and pressed to take the lead but it was Okehampton that managed to go into the break on top after another cross from Cooper deflected off a University defender into their own net.

Lack of concentration from the second half kick off saw Okehampton squander their lead almost immediately. They refused to let their heads go down though and started playing some good passing football.

Dani Turner and Mel Grimes dominated the left wing and Oke now had most of the possession. Grimes got on the score sheet and Cooper extended her tally putting Okehampton 4-2 in front.

Plymouth University were determined to get something out of the game and pressured until the final whistle.

The visitors managed to scrape one back on 80mins but Oke held on to their lead securing a place in the second round against Premier League side Exeter and Tedburn Rangers.
