Cullompton Rangers 4

Okehampton Argyle 0

OKEHAMPTON?S outside chance of catching Tap and Barrel was blown away last Saturday when they lost to Cullompton, and their chances of finishing second also took a knock.

The first chance of the half came in the second minute and fell to Adam Mortimer who pulled his shot wide of the post. From the goal-kick the Argyle defence failed to mark Cullompton?s forward, and as the ball went right through the pack the striker was on side for probably his easiest goal of the season.

Okehampton pushed to try and get the equaliser but just could not get the passes together to break Cullompton down. In the 20th minute Cullompton doubled their lead when they scored direct from a corner.

Okehampton made a double substitution at half-time, Mark Burdus and new signing Ewan Simpson replacing Paul Yip and Stuart Cann.

For 25 minutes Okehampton were embedded in Cullompton?s half and repeatedly threatened the Cullompton goal, Mortimer missing with a close-range header, and the keeper making a fine save minutes later to tip the ball over the bar.

But then came the sucker punch. Cullompton broke and gained a corner that was half-cleared to the edge of the box but returned with interest, moving Cullompton three goals clear.

This was a severe blow to Okehampton and despite efforts to try and get back into the game a weak back-header gave Cullompton?s striker his chance to score their fourth.

This result puts into doubt a second place finish as Argyle have to win every game they play just to finish above Cullompton who look more likely to finish in second place.

This week away against Exeter St Thomas. All players to meet at the car park at 1.15pm. Kick-off 3pm.
