OKEHAMPTON kept their 100% record with this result — but Topsham put up a brave fight and only two late goals settled the issue.

Argyle started brightly enough with James Williams coming closest to scoring with a low drive, just going wide of the upright, following a corner.

They continued to dominate and only fine goalkeeping and sound defensive play kept the eager strikers at bay.

Some frustration started to creep into the game when first Stuart Cann for Argyle was booked for dissent and a minute later a Topsham player was also booked for a late tackle on Cann.

A flurry of action on the half-hour saw a good shot from Steve Williams go just wide, Graham Soby join Cann in the referee's book, also for dissent, and a flying save from the Topsham keeper from Daniel Johnston's pile driver.

On 30 minutes, against the run of play, Argyle's defence were caught square when a through-ball found Topsham's Andy Milton, who slipped it past Chris Dearing — standing in for the unavailable Daniel Malcolm, who was attending a family wedding — to score in off the post.

But Topsham's lead was short-lived, as three minutes later Mortimer equalised, when he turned in another cross from the hard working Johnston.

Argyle could not have asked for a better start to the second half when after only two minutes, a jinking run from Steve Williams ended with a perfect cross for Mortimer to glance a header into the corner of the net.

Mortimer returned the favour in the 75th minute when his through-ball was converted by Williams giving the keeper no chance with a well placed shot.

With ten minutes to go, Paul Yip made sure of the three points when a brilliant individual run ended with an unstoppable shot past the keeper.

The joint team managers of this young side must be pleased with their performances so far this season and hope it will continue on Saturday when they visit local rivals Hatherleigh Town. Kick-off 3pm.
