Brixington Blues 8

Okehampton Argyle 8

OKEHAMPTON started well, going up the slope, with the midfield playing attractive football.

Brixington were willing to attack and it came as no surprise when they wiped out Argyle's early two-goal lead but Argyle equalised just before the break. Okehampton built their play on interchanging passing, but the Blues took a direct approach by lobbing balls forward for their big front man who attacked constantly. It was unsurprising the lad had a first half hat-trick although Hill and Raymont did well to restrict him to that.

Without Kimber, Wonnaccott and Herrod-Taylor, Okehampton were lacking in size but more than compensated for this by sticking to their task. Ricky Wooldridge, in goal, was an obvious target because of his lack of height but Brixington failed to exploit this and he was unfortunate with more than one goal.

The second half saw the teams exchanging goals at regular intervals and Brixington started to come out on top. However, the visitors refused to lie down. They had gone from being potential winners to possible losers but showed true spirit in gaining a late equaliser as other matches finished and players came over to watch what must have been one of the most extraordinary matches at Withycombe Common.

Okehampton scorers: King (4), Woods (3), Clarke.

Men of the match: Darren Chapman, BJ Weekes.
