OKEHAMPTON Argyle held their presentation evening recently at the Fingle Glen Hotel. A very enjoyable evening was had by all and the club would like to thank players Tom Williams and Ben Woodhouse for their hard work in organising the event.

Secretary Charlie Bond summarised a difficult season for the club. The first XI struggled in division one East of the South West Peninsula League until Christmas, but with a couple of astute signings by the managers, Okehampton put together a sequence of eight wins, two draws and only nine defeats from January onwards, leaving them well clear of the bottom two in the league.

After two successive promotions, the seconds established themselves in a safe mid-table position in division four of the Devon and Exeter League. Although they won against many of the top teams they showed that they should be capable of further promotion in future. The thirds who had also been promoted for two seasons running struggled all year in division seven and have been relegated back to division eight. However, many of their players from their successful years moved up through the club to the seconds and firsts last season.

The club also won the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Division one East best programme award along with a £200 prize and the opportunity was taken to present Ian Bailey of Inkprint Ltd with a plaque to mark all the work and help he has given the club in designing and printing the programme.

The club also thanked all their sponsors, especially team sponsors Mike Harding Lighting Solutions, The Exeter Arms and the White Hart Hotel and Alan Balsdon of BVS and Sarah's Self Drive who has also been extremely supportive of the club.

Due to a re-arrangement of the regional split of the South West Peninsula League division one for the coming season, the first team has been placed in the Western Division. This will involve a couple of long journeys to the likes of Porthleven and Mousehole, but there will still be a couple of local derbies next season against Holsworthy and Callington. There will also be trips to two of the best Peninsula League grounds, namely Penryn and Newquay.

The winners of the annual awards were: Club person of the year, Neil Clift; first team player of the year, Dan Johnston; second team players' player, Ricky Drew; second team manager's player, Tom Williams. Third team players' player, John Filbey; third team manager's player, Nathan McLuskey. Golden Boot, John Filbey.
