South Exeter Colts U13 1
Okehampton Argyle U13 3
FOLLOWING two successive defeats Okehampton has got back to winning ways against South Exeter Colts, despite playing poor football for the first 35 minutes.
The first half saw Okehampton continue to play indifferent football and it looked likely that another defeat loomed when the Exeter side took a deserved lead.
If it had not been for some superb saves and competent handling by Okehampton goalkeeper Andy Herrod-Taylor, they could have been more than one down at half-time.
Whatever coach Alan King said at half-time it certainly paid dividends in the second-half. Okehampton were soon on level terms when captain Matt King unleashed a terrific shot from 25 yards out and which was still gathering speed when it passed the Exeter keeper and hit the back of the net.
This early breakthrough gave Okehampton considerably more purpose and effort and it was not long before they took the lead. Following good work by Phil Woods and Rick Wooldridge, Darren Chapman was on hand to flick the ball home superbly from five yards out with the outside of his left foot.
With Okehampton in the ascendancy it was only a question of time when another goal would arrive. Persistent Okehampton pressure allowed the ball to find its way out to Ben Kimber on the Okehampton left flank. His 20-yard blistering shot gave the Exeter keeper no chance and Okehampton were 3-1 up and cruising.
Okehampton's defence, again marshalled commandingly by Matt Wonnacott, were able to cope with the Exeter threat during the second half and deserve praise for the way they supported their comrades in attack.
This week Okehampton Under 13s are at home to Kentisbeare Colts, kick-off 10.30am.
