THERE was a fantastic football fiesta at Okehampton College as school football teams from the area battled it out for the honour of being West Devon Champions.

The top five school teams from the Okehampton and Tavistock areas met to play for the title. Group 1 consisted of North Tawton, Bere Alston, St Andrew’s A, South Tawton and Hatherleigh. Bere Alston were undefeated, earning themselves the top spot with three wins and a draw. St Andrew’s A came second, winning three matches and losing one. South Tawton were third, North Tawton fourth and Hatherleigh came fifth.

In Group 2, Whitchurch were also undefeated with two wins and two draws, but were pipped to top spot by Okehampton who won three of their matches. Third were St Andrew’s B, Chagford were fourth and Horrabridge fifth.

Okehampton and Whitchurch progressed to the final, leaving Bere Alston and St Andrew’s to play for third place. In a tense match, Bere Alston won the match 1-0 to claim the bronze medals.

The final between Whitchurch and Okehampton produced a high standard of football from both teams.

Whitchurch took the title of champions by claiming an impressive 3-1 victory.
