HIGH speed internet connections will reach Yelverton sooner than expected after BT reduced the number of registrations needed and public interest soared.

BT last week reduced its trigger level of broadband/ADSL registrations from 400 to 350. At the same time, the number of registrations received hit 277, meaning just 73 more are needed before work will start to bring the super-speed information super-highway to Yelverton.

Pierre Morel at West Devon council said: ?We are getting quite near now, and figures really are progressing. Registrations had reached a bit of a plateau and was not increasing, but at about the same time BT lowered their levels, public reaction was on the up.?

According to the ADSL Guide website it will take around 29 days until the 350 registrations are made and work will begin as soon as possible after that date. Figures had been on a steady increase since the beginning of April this year, but in the last week 12 registrations were received compared with just two in the previous week.

Mr Morel, the council?s ICT strategy and client manager, said: ?It really is quite exciting to see Yelverton?s figures progressing like this; there are people in the village who?ve really pushed the campaign.?
