MAD (Meavy Amateur Dramatics) Productions are proud to present 'Snow White and the Devon Dwarves' at Meavy Parish Hall in February.
It is yet another hilarious and imaginative script co-written by Sam Regan de Bere and Liz Tompkins, with colourful sets designed and painted by Princetown artist John Stones and beautiful Elizabethan costumes created by a dedicated team fronted by Lis Mawhinney, Brenda Burt and Rosemary Whitehouse.
The merry tale is set in Elizabethan Meavy where the local Dames, Beryl and Cynthia, are incorrigible flirts who make eyes at every available young gent.
These ladies are renowned for their raucous, extravagant soirees, but it isn't long before their wild partying attracts the attention of the pious and vain Lady Crapestoni, prompting Queen Beth's Court to send the Royal Justice to Devon to sort them out.
On the edge of the village live the seven dwarves, but it becomes clear that there are not quite seven of them and their accents are not exactly local, they are also really rather tall — but why are they going to such lengths to try and disguise themselves as something they are not? Could they be hiding a sinister secret?
Up at Crapstone castle meet Lady Crapestoni's saucy, flirtatious daughter, Rose Red and her sweet, innocent stepdaughter Snow White.
Expect caustic wit from the resident magical golden mirror and evil wickedness from Oswyn, the dastardly huntsman.
Miles away down on the Barbican are the young, handsome seafaring heroes Drake, Raleigh and Hawkins and some fine courtly ladies along with a juicy pair of corseted wenches.
Will the young, humble footman win the heart of his own true love? Will the Judge and executioner wreak mayhem? What special secret does the gentle maidservant reveal and what will become of Prince Charming?
Intrigued? Well roll up and enjoy lots of theatrical jollity, toe tapping music, surprises and lots of tummy tickling laughter.
The panto performances are on Thursday, February 7 and Friday, February 8 at 7.30pm, Saturday, February 9 at 2.30pm and Thursday, February 14 and Friday, February 15 at 7.30pm. The Saturday performance is sold out. Doors and bar open at 6.30pm.
