MEMBERS of the Okehampton Community Archive (OCA) were thrilled to receive a cheque for £200 from Ye Oketon Lodge, the Okehampton branch of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (ROAB).
The ROAB is a social and benevolent organisation, which supports charitable and philanthropic groups at both national and local level. Ye Oketon Lodge meets every Monday at the Royal British Legion Club, and donated the cheque to the OCA at their meeting on August 15.
The donation will allow the archive to buy equipment needed for the recording of information provided by town residents.
The OCA was formed in 2009 with the aim of recording a 'living history' of personal memories, photographs and documents from the people of Okehampton.
It holds several exhibitions and coffee mornings throughout the year.
The Archive centre on Mill Road is open two days a week for visitors to look at photographs, documents and information.
Members of the OCA expressed thanks to the lodge for their donation, and are overjoyed the archive can now move forward with the purchase of new equipment to document the town's history.
