SEVERAL members of Tavistock Company of Archers headed off to Bicton arena recently for a day's shooting on a challenging course of 36 targets.

At the end of a sunny day the results were in favour of several members of the club.

In the men's freestyle class chairman Mike Charlesworth came third, only 17 points behind the winner. In the Compound Unlimited class Lez James came third. It was left up to the juniors to show the adults the way home.

Eight-year-old Ben James on his first ever field shoot came first with Ashley Cackett following close behind in 2nd place, showing grandad Fred how it should be done.

Ben is the youngest member of Tavistock ever to win a field medal and dad, Lez James, hopes there will be many more to come.

On the same day Trish Beaver went off to an indoor competition at St Austell and came a respectable fourth out of a large field of competitors.

This year sees Tavistock hosting two full days of field shooting in August as part of the Devon Challenge which is eight days of archery in Devon and Cornwall. Anyone wanting any details ring Lez James on 617283.
