A NURSING student is hoping to raise funds to buy a special leaving present when she says goodbye to Halwill Manor Nursing Home next month to continue her training. April Rofe, 19, has organised a charity concert featuring Launceston Male Voice Choir to raise the funds to buy a specialised bed for severely ill and disabled patients at the nursing home. April is set to leave the home next month to embark upon a diploma in nursing through the University of Plymouth at the Exeter campus. April has lived at Chilla for three years ? while at school she helped out at Halwill Manor during weekends. She went there full-time upon leaving school. She then did an office job in Holsworthy but decided it was not for her. ?I decided to return to the Manor as a care assistant as I realised that nursing was the career for me. I found the job so rewarding I decided I wanted to become a qualified nurse,? she said. April finishes at the nursing home at the beginning of September, but before beginning her nursing course, she felt she wanted to organise an event to help the home. She said: ?I felt that I would like to do something for the home as a thank you, which would benefit both the residents and the staff.? April hopes to raise at least £500 but the more money raised the better the specialised bed which the home would be able to buy for its residents. The concert is at Pyworthy Village Hall on Saturday, September 2. Choir members will also be performing some solos and the evening will be chaired by Cllr Des Shadrick. It starts at 7pm and will be followed by a buffet supper. Tickets, £4.50 on the door or from 01409 221113.
