South West Peninsula League Okehampton 0 Appledore 4 OKEHAMPTON were well beaten with a depleted side, but battled hard for the first 30 minutes with keeper Daniel Malcolm making some important stops and Elliott Collins having to clear the ball off his own goal line. Argyle seemed to lose the midfield battle and this exposed the defence; Appledore scored from a long ball played wide left and keeper Malcolm had no option but to come off his line to block but was beaten by the winger lifting the ball over him and into the Argyle net. Appledore went on to create the better chances throughout the remainder of the first half. Argyle started the second half much better and pressured their opponents into some desperate defending, forcing several corners and free kicks, but but with all this pressure they were unable to turn their efforts into goals. After Appledore had contained Argyle?s early second half pressure they settled again and played some good football, opening up the Okehampton defence almost every time they attacked and were rewarded when their no 15 striker got the first of his three goals when he was left with just the keeper to beat from close range. Okehampton made two changes when George Pitts came on for Neil Agnew and Mathew Saunders came on for Stuart Cann. With 25 minutes remaining Argyle pushed forward and tried to get something out of the game, but were stretched and paid the price for leaving large gaps at the back for the away side to exploit, and a further two goals came as a result and Appledore ran out comfortable winners. l Next week Argyle are away to Axminster, kick off 2.15pm.
