AS a prominent retailer for many years in Tavistock I am appalled at the number of times my staff and I have been obliged to clear up dog mess from the pavement due to irresponsible and lazy dog owners.

Nearly every day there is a sizeable deposit outside the front door of one of my shops and today yet another appeared, but deposited in the middle of the day with no member of the public obviously brave enough to inform the owner of his legal obligation to clear it up.

The poo was subsequently trodden along the high street and into retail shops.

Is anyone responsible for policing this, as it has happened to us at least five times this month? If we had a dog warden as keen and efficient as the traffic warden, there would be no problem I am sure!
