DUE to the bad weather in early December the club was unable to circulate details of its indoor tennis programme for juniors for the ten weeks leading up to Easter.

During the Easter term the club organises Saturday morning junior tennis in the sports hall at Okehampton College.

For the younger players indoor tennis played with a soft ball is ideal for learning and improving basic ball and racket skills. Older juniors have the opportunity to develop their skills and to play competitive matches.

The older children will also be supervised in improving their skills with hard tennis balls.

If the weather improves sufficiently children will have the opportunity of playing outside, particularly as we get nearer to Easter.

The tennis club has to pre-book the Okehampton College sports hall and need to ensure sufficient income is received to cover the cost of the hire charges. Tennis club members give their time free of charge and equipment is also provided free by the club.

The charge for the ten weeks will be £13, payable in advance and refunds will not be possible if children do not attend. Providing there are sufficient places available children can attend on a weekly basis but the cost will be £1.75 per hourly session.

Juniors will have the opportunity, if they wish, to work towards certificates of achievement. These awards are sponsored by club captain Paul Chastey who will present the certificates on the final Saturday.

The following Saturday mornings and times have been booked: January 18, 25; February 1, 8, 15; March 8. 15, 22, 29; April 5.

Beginners and younger juniors: 10am to 11am.

Better players and 8 to 11 year-olds, 11am to noon.

If you require any further information, or wish to book in advance, contact the tennis club chairman David Carter on 01837 840521. Last year the sessions were fully booked and to avoid disappointment it is best to book early.
