SANDFORD Ladies cricket team is looking for new recruits from the Okehampton area.
Following the demise of teams in Hatherleigh, Chagford, North Tawton and Belstone due to a lack of organisers, it is believed there are many cricketers in the area without a team to play with.
But you do not have to be experienced to join the Sandford Ladies — for those who have played racquet sports, netball or hockey, even if it was some time ago, the chances are they will take to cricket like a duck to water.

The ladies' team was started from scratch in the Autumn of 1997. Despite losing every game it played during the first season things picked up and in 1999 the team only lost one game and won the Devon eight-a-side tournament.
The team, however, needs more players to keep its strength up and its aim is to have both senior and junior squads this season.
Because many players have family and work commitments, fixtures are spread over the summer to make life easier. This year, as well as friendly games and the annual eight-a-side tournament, there will be a knockout cup as a prelude to establishing a league in 2001.
