LAST Wednesday the pannier market was proud to host the BBC Antiques Roadshow, of which more will undoubtedly be written elsewhere. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who gave such wonderful help and support, including the stewards who looked after the huge number of visitors, the traders and staff who moved all the tables and stalls, all the cleaners and caterers, the traffic warden, the works department who performed wonders blacking out the whole building and our mayor Jenny Metcalf, who encouraged us from the moment we conceived the idea of approaching the BBC. As many of you will be aware, the day was an outstanding success. Surely the jewel in the crown of our charter celebrations. Eddie Carruthers Mike Souter Market Reeve and Deputy Tavistock Pannier Market THE success of the Antiques Roadshow on May 11 was largely due to the assiduous stewarding of several market traders, town council staff and at least one town councillor. Nor must the patience of the people with their plates, pots, pictures, books, et cetera who stood, some of them for two hours or more, in the labyrinth of queues and electric cables to have their treasures assessed. At the same time Bedford Square presented a busy colourful foreground to the event, thanks to the goodwill and enterprise of other market traders. The best market town in England hosted a most pleasant event which will no doubt become a most enjoyable TV programme in the autumn. G Kirkpatrick Tavistock
