THE second Wren Music Night went with a bang as people packed into the Octagon Theatre, Okehampton. Expectation was high as the audience waited to see some of the best traditional music talent in the area.
Nick Wyke, Marilyn Tucker and Paul Wilson began the evening with some great tunes and songs, which had the crowd entertained.
Headline guest Simon Care, who has toured the world with groups like the Albion Band, captivated everyone with a great set of English traditional melodeon tunes.
The concert was divided into three parts, allowing plenty of time to sample the terrific real ales at the bar provided by the Plymouth Inn and to chat with musicians and other audience members.
Following the first interval Roots Band, a group of young people from Okehampton College, played some brilliant newly written and traditional music.
They played with professionalism beyond their years and the listeners? response was very appreciative.
The evening?s raffle was well supported due to the great selection of CDs offered as prizes.
A further set from Simon Care consisting of bright, fast melodeon tunes really made the end of the night go with a swing. The final number saw Simon and Nick Wyke on fiddle play a blistering series of tunes written by Phil Beer.
The feedback from the gig-goers was positive and the quality of musicianship, variety and value for money seemed to make the biggest impression.
Wren Music Nights return later this month with another fantastic line-up including Chris Foster, The Barn Owls duo and The Posse.
Catch them on Saturday May 31 at 8pm.
