ALL the outstanding cup matches in the Okehampton and district table tennis league have now been played.
In the semi final of the Pretoria Cup Okehampton B were at home to the Young Ones who raced into a 5-0 lead before Cath Smith won the only game for Okehampton, narrowly beating Sarah Jackson in three legs. The Young Ones winning the match 6-1.
In the final between Anchorage B and the Young Ones, George and Edward Haskell did well in the first doubles to beat Dave Wilson and Jenny Hotchkiss in straight sets.
Sarah Jackson won her singles against Dave Wilson and joined Edward in the second double beating Roger Gilbert and Jenny Hotchkiss in a hard fought third leg decider to lead 0-3. In the next two singles Anchorage B fought back with Roger beating George Haskell 21-13, 20-22, 21-15 and Jenny beating Edward 26-24,14-21,21-19 to bring the score to 2-3.
Sarah beat Roger in the next singles and George beat Dave, both games in two legs to complete the league and cup double.
Congratulation to Jenny and Roger who married on the day before the final.
The Bill Fogerty Trophy was also completed between The J Team and Tavistock A.
Nick Jackson, John Down and Naomi Jackson for the J Team and Bob Easton, Peter Hicks and Roger Bowkett for Tavistock A. Bob beat Nick in the first singles with John Down levelling at 1-1 beating Peter. Naomi beat Roger to put the T Team 2-1. Bob levelled the match by beating John; in the next Roger took Nick all the way winning 22-24, 21-10, 15-21 to put Tavistock 2-3 ahead.
Naomi beat Peter to level at 3-3, John put the J Team ahead in a hard fought 21-14, 20-22, 21-1.
Bob leveled at 4-4 completing a fine maximum against Naomi who lost her first game of the evening.
Peter Hicks won the trophy for his team winning his first game of the night beating Nick 15-21, 21-10,14-21 giving Tavistock the league and cup double for the sixth year running with the toughest match of the season with a 5-4 win.
