THE Okehampton Beekeepers held their annual meeting recently, celebrating the achievements of the group at Whiddon Down Village Hall.

More than 30 members attended the meeting, which marked the end of Ray King's tenure as chairman, choosing to stand down from the role.

Under Ray's stewardship the group has blossomed, with over 100 members now in the group. Taking over the position is Will Pyne, with Marian Minton becoming vice-chair.

As well as a chance to elect new committee officers, the meeting provided the opportunity to celebrate the group's efforts and successes. The club's new trophy, the president's cup, was presented by branch president Jim Sampson to Janet Grist in recognition of her many hard years of work on the committee.

Jim himself was recognised for his 50 years as a beekeeper with a certificate from the British Beekeepers' Association.

Certificates and badges for successfully passing the Basic Certificate in Beekeeping were awarded to Robert Blackmore and Louisa Mogford.

The meeting concluded with a bring and share supper, and will be the last meeting for the group in 2011.
