THE Deputy Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Cllr Richard Ball, will unveil a plaque at Plymouth station at 12.30pm on Tuesday, June 2 to commemorate 125 years of trains between Plymouth and the Bere Peninsula and the opening of the Plymouth to Tavistock and Lydford railway, rounding off several days of celebrations in Bere Alston and Bere Ferrers.

A number of local people, including children from Bere Alston Primary School, will travel into Plymouth for the plaque unveiling, travelling back straightaway as an hour after the Plymouth ceremony at 1.30pm, Cllr David Cloke, Mayor of West Devon, will unveil a plaque at Bere Alston station to commemorate the 125th anniversary of that station and Bere Ferrers.  The children will then read a poem.

Other events to celebrate the railway anniversary include a commemorative dinner, historical exhibition, an illustrated talk and an open day at the Tamar Belle Heritage Centre, Bere Ferrers station.
