THE Ju Jitsu Tavistock Club has recently celebrated its fourth anniversary. The club has been steadily growing with a stronghold of more than 25 adult members training and taking part in the various club activities. Umberto Bergonzini sensei, the club instructor, says: ?We have all worked very hard to establish the club in the community and provide our services to people living in Tavistock and surrounding area. ?We kicked off 2006 in style with another very successful self-defence course for women. This year is also very important for the club as it reaches another milestone in its short history by introducing classes for children.? Umberto said since opening the club four years ago he had numerous enquiries about teaching children. ?There was never any doubt in my mind that in the future I would have a children?s section of the club. However certain criteria had to be met before taking this step. One of these criteria was to be able to have high ranking students who would be willing to assist me during the children?s classes. I am particularly lucky and proud to now have three great brown belts in the club; Jim Griffiths, Noel Kelleher and Robert Curtis.? Umberto plans to take the club to his native country of Italy for a martial arts summer camp. He is confident that, as the club enters its fifth year, it will continue its success and is ready to welcome new students who wish to join. The club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8pm and 9.30pm for adults and Friday between 5.30pm and 6.15pm for children. Anyone interested in joining can contact Umberto on 07866 720361 or come to one of the classes which are held at the Scout Hall in Pixon Lane.
