Tavistock Ladies 3
Teignmouth 2
IN hot conditions the opposition were quick to gain possession of the ball and put Tavistock under pressure.
Laura Stapleton held firm at the back for Tavistock and with Nikki Woodroffe moving the ball quickly up the pitch it unnerved Teignmouth and Tavistock's new player Anna Balm playing on the right wing made a lovely cross into the D which was met by Jo Gaspar who slipped it neatly past the keeper. This lifted the team's spirits and they continued to work hard.
A break from the opposition resulted in the home defence being outnumbered and there was nothing that keeper, Robynne Honey, could do.
Emma White worked hard to mark up one of Teignmouth's stronger players while Julia Firth and Claire Bruna made some good interceptions allowing the ball to be fed back up to Gaspar and Woodroffe.
A short corner was awarded to Tavistock and Woodroffe took a shot on goal and Stapleton was in the perfect position on the post to slot the ball home to make it 2-1 at half-time to Tavistock.
In the second half Tavistock were really put under pressure but solid defending from Dunn and Bassett kept the visitors at bay despite numerous short corners to the visitors.
Tavistock increased their score when Armstrong took the ball into the 'D' and hit a hefty strike past the keeper to make it 3-1.
The opposition came back with a second goal but stand-in keeper Honey performed well to frustrate the visitors further.
In the last quarter Tavistock began to re-group and held out for their victory.
l This week the team start their journey in premier two with their first league match at Kelly at 11am against Bude.
