A CALF died in a barn fire at a farm in Dousland last week, which took firefighters most of the night to tackle.
Fire crews were called to Peek Hill Farm at around 10.10pm last Wednesday (February 1), where they found a barn containing hay and cattle well alight with one gas cylinder involved.
Fire crews from Princetown, Yelverton, Tavistock, Crownhill, a water foam carrier from Plympton and the incident command unit from Greenbank attended the scene tackling the blaze until the early hours of the following morning.
The crews used three hose reel jets, two main jets, compressed air foam, four breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and mast lighting to extinguish the fire. The gas cylinder was removed to open air and the electrical supply was remotely isolated by Western Power.
Three cattle were released from the barn to be inspected by the vet, and one calf was found dead.
The 8 metres by 15 metres barn was severely damaged by the fire and an additional barn was slightly damaged by heat. An investigation into the cause of the fire was launched.
