A CHARITY shop in Tavistock is expanding to bigger premises to cope with the huge number of donations it has received within a year of opening.

As from tomorrow (Friday), the Woodside Animal Welfare Trust shop on North Street will increase the size of its operation to include the larger property next door.

The shop, which supports the trust's animal sanctuary in Plymouth, has been inundated with stock since it opened in November.

Manager Maggie Gynn said: 'It's been an hilarious 11 months juggling stock in a shop little bigger than your average front room. Our customers have been wonderful, with many of them storing their donations for us when they really wanted to have a clear out.

'I only wish we had a pound for every time someone said "you need a bigger shop" or "I've got a Woodside pet".'

Carole Bowles MBE, who founded the trust, said the generosity and support of the local community had been overwhelming. The new, extended shop will sell the same stock as before but with the addition of small furniture items.

Maggie's motto is 'If it's in good condition and will fit in your car we can take it.' Upholstered furniture must display a fire safety label. To enquire about donations, or for other information, Maggie can be contacted on 01822 617711.
