HAVING been on an epic fundraising 2,200-mile journey across Europe, the 'Angry Birds Saab' will be having its final fling at Tavistock Carnival this weekend.

The travelling Saab was the idea of Whitchurch resident Ann Keelan who read about the 'Barmy to Barcelona' wacky banger rally a couple of years ago and decided it would be a fun and different way to raise money for charity.

When Ann mentioned the idea to Judy Pride, a professional fundraiser for Children's Hospice South West, she loved the idea.

Along with Judy's friend, Lindsey Svensson, they adopted the theme of 'Angry Birds', the famously addictive gaming phenomenon that has now achieved more than one billion downloads worldwide and whose fans include David Cameron, Salman Rushdie and F1 driver Heikki Kovaleinen.

'We are a team of ladies of a certain age', explained Judy, 'and whilst we may not actually be angry, you don't want to get in our way when we're on a mission.'

Official permission was quickly secured from Rovio Mobile, creators of the Angry Birds app, and Ann's trusty Saab — with a mere 246,000 miles on the clock — was appropriately decked out with the requisite green pigs, wooden huts and eponymous stroppy avians.

Having shown its mettle on the journey across Europe, including the notorious St Bernard Pass of 'Italian Job' fame, the Angry Birds Saab has made it safely back from Barcelona and has raised well over £2,000 for Children's Hospice South West.

After it appears at Tavistock Carnival this Saturday it will be sold on eBay with any surplus also going to CHSW.
