THE Winsford Centre 'netted' a generous donation on bonfire night - courtesy of a local fishing business.

Angler's Paradise, a fishing resort based in Halwill, donated £2,900 to the centre having started fundraising in late June. Fundraising culminated in the resort's annual Netting Week, with £1,500 of the final total raised during this seven days.

Money raising events throughout the week included a tombola, raffles, archery, a treasure hunt, bingo, a casting competition and the bonfire night on Guy Fawkes' Day — £130 was raised from bids on the guy, which was won by Ellie Gibbs.

Ian Saunders from the centre collected the money from owners of Angler's Paradise Zyg and Rose Gregorek at their bonfire night fundraiser.

Zyg said: 'We try to do what we can for charity here, often raising money for various local causes. This time we felt we would donate to the Winsford Centre, seeing as it has had a hard time recently, and it's a valuable resource in the area.

'We're thankful for the support of local businesses throughout our fundraising efforts, who often donate prizes and support events here.'

Zyg and Rose raise money for charity throughout the year for a range of local charities, having supported Devon Air Ambulance and the RNLI among an array of charities throughout the last 15 years.

The centre closed its luncheon club for the elderly earlier this year following rising energy and fuel costs. However, the centre itself is still open to be hired by local firms and organisations.
