Tamar League Gunnislake v Calstock A FINE spell of pace bowling by the home side?s skipper Andy Astley (7-6-5-7) was the highlight of the second meeting between Gunnislake and Calstock on Saturday. None of Calstock?s batsmen could cope with the sheer speed and accuracy of his deliveries. All seven victims were bowled out; their stumps sent cartwheeling in spectacular fashion. Gunnislake were once again inserted by the opposition and got away to a steady start, with openers Ricard (25) and Ansell (17) putting on thirty-two for the first wicket. Big-hitting Russell Holloway was soon out to a fine catch by Mark Rundle on the deep square leg boundary off John Mowbray?s bowling (4-0-19-1). Astley was soon to follow, inside-edging a wide ball onto his stumps. Calstock?s bowlers proved difficult to get away. Rundle?s (12-3-21-1) swinging deliveries combined with line and length from Trevor Ryder, (12-2-29-3) unlucky to see several chances go to ground, restricted the scoring to around two runs an over. With Gunnislake?s younger players next in, the task of anchoring the innings fell to Matt Ricard. Advice from the latter to incoming bat James Boundy (26) ??Have a look at it, take your time, plenty of overs left...? was obviously unheeded as the increasingly confident youngster hoisted his second ball from John Lambert (12-0-43-2) back over the bowler?s head for six. Wickets continued to fall as the batting side tried to accumulate a defendable score. Hugo and Martin played tip and run for the last few overs to advance the home side?s score to 121 for seven wickets. Adam Fuller (5-0-10-0) was given the task of opening Gunnislake?s bowling and showed excellent control in his opening overs. Mike Hugo, (12-1-14-3) at the other end took the first wicket; John Lambert top edging a catch to Fuller at backward square leg. Ryder (10) and Brown provided some resistance until Astley came into the attack. There followed a fairly regular procession of batsmen back to the pavilion until the Calstock innings ended in the 24th over, with Ryder the only batsman to reach double figures. Gunnislake (18 pts) beat Calstock (3 pts) by 87 runs.
