TAVISTOCK will be celebrating 1,000 years of history this October with with the launch of the town's first ever Heritage Festival. The aim of the festival is to highlight and celebrate Tavistock's unique history and heritage through a series of different events for people of all ages and interests. However, no heritage festival would be complete without a logo that encapsulates the town's rich and varied history, so the festival organising committee issued a challenge to the schools and were overwhelmed by a superb selection of entries. The winning design was created by Esmae Waters and the logo incorporates the three themes of the abbey, Francis Drake and mining. Runners up were Casey Turton and Emily Collins, and highly commended designs were by Callum Coe, Isabel Lucas, Kiera Rich and Darcy Brown. The festival committee expressed thanks to Tavistock Rotary Club for coming up with the idea of the festival and to sponsors Gill Akaster Solicitors.
