West Devon drivers urged to report animal collisions after casualty riseAfter not racing for two weeks Steve was hoping to continue to follow the high standard set by his clubmates Adrian Street and Ray Retter over the previous weeks.
Adrian was fourth in a field of 70 in the Tom Hawkins Memorial road race on April 18 and Ray was again the best veteran in Tavistock Wheelers? sporting time trial on Easter Sunday.
Steve showed that his two weeks of training had paid off when in still, summer-like conditions on Sunday morning he rode to a fine second place. His time of 1:00:28 was only 35 seconds behind winner Gary Fouracres(St Austell Wheelers). Steve?s ride was actually the fastest of the day, but he incurred a 1min 10sec penalty for arriving at the start after his alloted start time.
Ray Retter again proved he was one of the best veterans in the region with his time of 1:01:00 which was good enough to win the veterans? prize.
This weekend Ray travels to Yorkshire to take part in the veterans? national 25-mile time trial championship and Steve is a little closer to home when he participates in St Budeaux CC?s sporting 14-mile time trial at Golberdon. Both will be hoping for similar results as last weekend only without the time penalties!
