OKEHAMPTON Town Council co-opted a new councillor last week, Mr Terry Cummings.

Mr Cummings was the Labour Party candidate for Okehampton East in the recent local elections, and town councillors voiced their opinion he would be a valued addition to the council.

Mayor Maureen McDonald said: 'When he ran for West Devon Borough Council he ran a good campaign, and even though his politics are not my politics, I think he is an ideal person to come on this council.'

Cllr Dave Weekes said: 'In the past he has made the effort to come along to some of our meetings here, and I think that's a good sign for us.'

Mr Cummings was the only applicant to put their name forward for co-option.
