AN outdoor evening of music and song is in store at the garden of Torrington 1646 this weekend, in an event organised by the Plough Arts Centre.

The Ploughcapella Community Choir will be playing host to visiting choir Voices in Common and the 15-strong band Rough Music.

Voices in Common have been singing for ten years. They have opened the Exeter Festival and performed in wassailing ceremonies throughout the area. Led by Paul Wilson of Wren Trust, they sing folk and contemporary music.

Rough Music is an East Devon folk orchestra led by David Faulkener of The Eelgrinders and Nick Wyke, a member of several bands including Sacred Turf. Rough Music?s repertoire ranges from the exotic to the local, using melodeon, fiddle, trumpet, bass and guitar.

Ploughcapella is going from strength to strength, singing haunting melodies and intricate rhythms under the inspired leadership of Alison Jones.

The event begins at 7.30pm on Saturday ? bring rugs, chairs, picnics and bottles.

A harmony singing workshop takes place during the afternoon between 2pm and 5pm ? all welcome. Contact 01805 624624 for details.
